JAMAICA

I’ve just upload the first two of three groups of photos from Amanda and Dirk’s wedding in Treasure Beach, Jamaica a few weeks ago (can it really have been that long?). Enjoy the warm, tropical vista now, because it looks like winter has at least a month to go. Go to my flickr account.

Other, slightly more exciting news is that Emma’s job has officially been extended over the summer. The school is going to host a summer school program for international students who don’t want to make the day-long exodus home at the conclusion of the year.

This means, amongst other things, that we get to stay in the apartment pretty much indefinitely. That’s really big news for us, as it wasn’t clear what we’d have to do when school ended in June before this. It also means Emma gets a continuation of pay through the summer, so big bonus there.

Apparently all the news is on Emma’s side, because she’s also in the running to become the director of residence life next year. The job would still be a live-in position, but she would be required to keep office hours and would handle a lot of paperwork. In truth, she’s on the fence about the job. She told her supervisor not to worry if they found a more qualified candidate because she’s honestly not sure which is better: more responsibility and better pay or less pay and more free time. Both have their merit, though I told her to aim for the responsibility, as it comes with the opportunity to gain experience.

Last but not least, Emma and I spoke with a mortgage sales person for the first time yesterday and discovered that not only do we not have as much to fear as we thought, we actually have reason to believe we can afford Timberwyck. That is, we wouldn’t be making a huge financial mistake in doing so. The banker told us that living in Blue Hill while owning the house in Castine wouldn’t throw up any red flags for most lenders and that renting it is a fine thing to do, as long as we understand that potential rental income cannot go towards qualifying for the loan.

With all this good news I know the world has to correct eventually, but for now I’m going to enjoy a lovely afternoon of unseasonable warmth here on the coast of Maine. Life is good, now let’s just remember to breath.
