- BUSINESS AS USUAL
-
We have a new deadline for getting work done at the house. Seems Christmas will be at Timberwyck this year. The option is there to have people over to our apartment in Blue Hill, but given the general apathy we have towards our current living space, we’d rather work ourselves hard and get the house ready for the holidays.

The biggest part of those plans is getting a new furnace installed a new roof put on, cleaning up at least one bathroom (including getting hot water working), and filling the place with furniture. If you’re reading this, consider keeping your eye out for beds, mattresses, couches, and chairs. We’re actually not doing to badly. The most concerning part is the furnace, as we’d have to get the person in to install it before the end of December. A dicey proposition during a regular year, and this year we’re looking at lots of people having furnace work in anticipation of high oil costs. Ah, New England.
In the meantime, we’re getting more serious about land management. Beyond house things, we are looking more seriously at what we need to run a successful farm. Turns out tractors are a big part. While Eliot assures us we don’t need a tractor, it sure wouldn’t hurt. I’m looking at purchasing a two-wheel Goldoni walk-behind 12hp diesel. American’s don’t know what to do with a two-wheel anymore, so you have to buy them from Italy. The benefit is that a tractor plus two or three attachments (for things like tilling, mowing, and snow-plowing) would cost $5-6,000. About one-third of a ride-on tractor with similar abilities.
So in the mean-meantime, I’m keeping busy with yard work. We still need to get the stable cleaned out and the basement could always use work. The roof will probably get fixed this weekend, weather permitting, and we are waiting for plumber availability before we start tearing the bathroom apart. Busy, busy, busy.
